Yoshimi Futamura

When I look at clay, when I touch it, when sometimes I taste it, I try to feel, to grasp the secret message of this wonderful material, to understand the power of clay! And even more difficult, how can I ensure that this power lives on after firing? What I want to do is transmit this living energy to my work. Earth is not just a raw material, it's a living thing ». Yoshimi Futamura.

Yoshimi's work evokes the power of gesture: the raw material is pressed and bent, and the rise in temperature causes cracks and uprisings, underlined by a light covering of white that hugs the accidents. Yoshimi Futamura studied ceramic techniques at the School of Ceramic Art in Seto, Japan, from 1979 to 1981. Moving to Paris in 1986, she completed her training with a diploma from the École Duperré and opened a studio in the 20th arrondissement.

Yoshimi Futamura has taken part in numerous exhibitions in France and abroad, notably at the Musée Guimet in Paris, the Crow Museum of Asian Art in Dallas and the Ariana Museum in Geneva.

His work is included in the collections of the Musée Guimet and Musée Cernuschi in Paris, the Ariana Museum in Geneva, the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taiwan, the World Ceramic Exposition Foundation in South Korea and the Shimoda City Museum in Shizuoka, Japan.
